Ice in the Gutter,
|Not on the Roof|

We treat gutters as part of the roof rather than a separate trade. That matters, because the roof edge, the drip edge, the fascia and the gutter all meet at the same three inches. When a roofer and a gutter company blame each other, you’re the one standing in the wet.

Peak Roofing is an owner-operated company working across Boise and Ada County. It began in 2017 and the reputation was built job by job. Mike came to a business that had already earned its place here. Over ten years of doing the job himself came with him.

Why Gutters
|Matter in Boise|

Around twenty inches of snow falls on a Boise roof across a winter, and almost none of it leaves gradually.

It arrives as a surge

Melt comes off in warm afternoons, funnels through the valleys, and drops off the eave in a narrow band. A gutter is what turns that surge into something the ground can take.

The landing zone is your foundation

Without a working run, that water lands in the same strip of soil against the house every thaw, all winter, for as long as the roof keeps shedding.

Boise is dry, which misleads people

Eleven to thirteen inches of precipitation a year sounds negligible. The figure that matters is not how much falls but how concentrated it is when it moves.

Gutter Services for |Boise Homes|

Guards are worth it on some Eagle homes and pointless on others. We will say which yours is.

Gutter guards and leaf protection

On Boise's older streets the board behind the gutter has usually carried two or three systems already. If it has gone soft, that gets sorted first, because nothing hangs properly on failing wood.

Replacement

For runs that ice has finished off. Sagging between hangers, corners opened up, or the whole line pulling away from the house.

Repair

Resealing corners, refixing hangers, clearing a blocked outlet. On a mid-century Bench home this is often all it needs.

Seasonal clearing

Twice a year suits most Boise homes, before winter and once spring has finished dropping things into them.

Guards

Worth discussing on the tree-lined streets, less so elsewhere. We will tell you which yours is.

Doing Gutters With Your Roof

Boise requires a permit for a re-roof, so the gutters are best handled in the same visit.

If you’re replacing the roof, this is the moment for the gutters.

The drip edge, the roof edge and the gutter all get set together, and you pay for one setup instead of two. It also removes the seam where two contractors point at each other about water getting behind the fascia.

Warranties and the |Peak Promise|

The work is backed, and on an older Boise home we will tell you what that covers before we touch the fascia.

We aim to get your roof right the first time. Once in a while a job hits a bump. What matters is that your roofer stands behind the work. If something needs attention after we’re done, you call us and we take care of it. That’s the promise we stand behind on every job.

On a gutter job that means the practical thing: if a corner we resealed starts weeping again next winter, you call us rather than getting a new quote.

Here is a distinction worth understanding, because it runs opposite to how ice behaves in colder places.

Boise doesn’t have an ice dam problem. The city’s own building code doesn’t require ice barrier underlayment on roofs, because this valley has no real history of damming. Ice dams on the roof are the classic cold-climate problem, and they are not the problem here.

The ice problem in Boise is in the gutter. With around 108 freezing nights a year and roughly twenty inches of snow, water sits in a gutter, freezes solid overnight, thaws through the afternoon, and does it again. Ice is heavy. A full run of it works hangers loose, opens seams at the corners, and eventually pulls the whole thing off the fascia. That’s the failure mode here, and it’s a different fix.

Which brings up fascia, and Boise’s housing makes that a real question.

A gutter is only as sound as the board it hangs on. The median Boise home was built around 1984, and the older neighbourhoods go back a great deal further. The North End and Hyde Park run to pre-1940s houses. The East End along Warm Springs Avenue is similar, and the Bench, both Central and Depot, holds a lot of mid-century stock.

On a house of that age, the gutters have been replaced two or three times already, and every one of those replacements put fasteners through the same fascia. Add years of water running behind a gutter that was overflowing, and the board underneath can be soft long before anyone notices. We check it before quoting a new system, because hanging good gutters on failing fascia just resets the clock.

Newer parts of the city, Southeast Boise, Barber Valley, West Boise, Collister and Columbia Village, tend to be on their first or second system, and the fascia question is usually simpler.

Debris arrives by wind here, not just by tree. In a valley where a spring storm can gust into the sixties, gutters fill on a different schedule than the once-a-fall rhythm people expect from wetter climates.

What's the difference between seamless and sectional gutters?
Sectional gutters come in stock lengths joined together, and every joint can eventually leak. Seamless run continuously along each side of the house, with joints only at corners and outlets. Fewer joints, fewer failure points.
Twice a year suits most Boise homes, before winter and after spring. Wind puts debris in gutters year round, not just in autumn, so homes with trees overhead want more attention.
Yes, and it’s the sensible order. The drip edge, roof edge and gutter all meet at the same spot, so setting them together avoids the seam where two trades disagree.
Yes, and for a different reason than people expect. It isn’t annual rainfall, it’s where concentrated snowmelt lands. Water coming off an eave in a narrow band next to your foundation, all winter, does more than the total inches suggest.
Usually ice. Water freezes in the run overnight and thaws by afternoon, over and over through a Boise winter. That weight works hangers loose and eventually takes the gutter with it. Sometimes the fascia behind it has gone soft too, which we’d check
