Mountain Rules, |Not Valley Rules|

Here’s the thing worth knowing before you plan any work up here. Boise County’s roofing requirements are not the same as the ones on the valley floor. That’s a genuine difference in what has to go on your roof, and it should be reflected in any quote you get.

Peak Roofing works across Horseshoe Bend and the wider county as a small, owner-operated company. It started in 2017, grew on referrals, and Mike took it on with more than 10 years of hands-on roofing behind him.

We do residential work and we install asphalt. We’ll tell you what the roof is doing and what can sensibly be done about it. If a repair is enough, we’ll say so.Read our story

Satellite imagery gives us square footage, pitch and layout. One thing the tool cannot know is that Boise County requires ice shielding, which a valley specification leaves out. Ours includes it, and the price reflects that.

Scope is confirmed on the roof, and we check the county snow load map for your address.

The unique local block. Every fact is verified. Sources at the end.

Boise County requires ice shielding on roofs. The valley doesn’t. That’s the whole difference in one sentence.

Down on the valley floor, ice barrier underlayment isn’t required, because that area has no real history of ice damming. Boise County’s residential builders handbook says the opposite: ice shielding is required on roof coverings across the county.

That’s not a small detail. Ice shielding is a self-adhering membrane that seals around fasteners and stops water that backs up under shingles from reaching the decking. It’s the layer that matters when snow melts on a warm roof and refreezes at a cold eave, which is a real winter here in a way it isn’t twenty miles south.

A quote for a roof up here needs to include it, or it will not meet the county requirement.

Your snow load isn’t a single county number.

Boise County requires roofs to meet the ground snow load for their specific location and points you to the county’s own snow load map to find it. That’s a sensible way to handle a county with this much terrain in it, and it means your figure and your neighbour’s may not match. We check the map for your address rather than assuming.

The frost depth here is 36 inches, against 24 down in the valley counties. That mostly matters for foundations rather than re-roofs, but it’s another sign that this is a different building environment, and it’s a useful test of whether a contractor knows where they are.

Horseshoe Bend is the biggest town in Boise County, at 715 people, sitting at about 2,674 feet on the Payette River. That says as much about the county as it does about the town. Building up here means dealing with a rural county building department, mountain access, and weather that arrives earlier and leaves later than it does down the hill.

One honest word about scheduling. Roofing up here is more weather-dependent than valley work, and the window is shorter. If you’re thinking about a replacement, earlier in the season is genuinely better, and we’d rather tell you that in spring than explain it in November.

Horseshoe Bend |Roofing Questions|

Talk with Peak Roofing

Is ice shielding really required here?

Yes. Boise County requires ice shielding on roof coverings across the county. That’s different from the valley floor, where it isn’t required. Any quote for a roof up here should include it.

That depends on exactly where you are. Boise County doesn’t use one county-wide number, it directs you to its snow load map for your specific location. We check it for your address.

We can’t say without looking, and we’re not going to guess. What we can do is inspect it, photograph what we find, and tell you honestly whether what’s up there matches what the county asks for. That inspection is free.

Earlier in the season rather than later. The working window is shorter here than down the hill, and weather moves schedules. We’d rather plan around that than fight it.

Yes. Enter your address and we measure your roof by satellite, then show you real pricing. We confirm the final scope at the inspection, because decking and what the county requires underneath can’t be seen from above.
