What |We Install|
We install asphalt shingles. That’s it, and it’s on purpose.
Our main line is Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration, an architectural shingle built for wind resistance and color depth. It’s what goes on most of the roofs we do in this valley.
We’re not a company that does asphalt, metal, tile, and flat roofs. Spreading across every material means being average at all of them. We’d rather be genuinely good at the one that goes on almost every house in the Treasure Valley.
Two Warranties |on Every Roof We Install|
Peak Performance Warranty
10 years on workmanship: flashing, shingle placement, and roof penetrations. A 2-year no-questions repair promise, and it transfers once if you sell.
Owens Corning Shingle Warranty
Limited Lifetime coverage on manufacturing defects, with 100% of materials and labor covered for the first 10 years. Wind coverage up to 130 MPH as a complete Owens Corning system, plus algae resistance.
Class 4 Impact-|Resistant Shingles|
Class 4 is the top impact rating an asphalt shingle can carry. It’s tested by dropping a steel ball on it, and the shingle passes if the mat underneath doesn’t crack.
That matters here because of hail. Hail damage on a normal shingle usually isn’t dramatic. It knocks granules loose and bruises the mat, which quietly takes years off the roof without ever causing a leak you’d notice.
The Class 4 option in the Owens Corning line is Duration FLEX. It uses a modified asphalt that stays flexible, so a hail strike dents it instead of cracking it.
One thing worth asking your agent about. Some insurers give a premium discount for a Class 4 roof. It varies by carrier and by policy, so don’t assume it, but on a roof you’re replacing anyway it can change the math.
Comparing |Shingle Brands|
If you’re getting three quotes, you’re probably looking at three different brands. Here’s an honest guide to that.
The major manufacturers are all credible
Owens Corning, GAF, Malarkey, CertainTeed, and Atlas all make architectural asphalt shingles with comparable warranties and similar performance at similar tiers. None of them is a bad product, and the differences between them at the same tier are smaller than the marketing suggests.
Compare tiers, not logos
Very manufacturer has a good, better, and best line. A basic architectural shingle from one brand is much closer to a basic architectural shingle from another than it is to that same brand's premium line. If two quotes name different brands, find out which tier each one is.
Where real differences show up
Wind rating, impact rating, warranty terms, and how the shingle is made. Malarkey, for example, builds with polymer-modified asphalt, which is a genuine design difference rather than marketing. Ask what makes each shingle different and see whether the answer is specific.
What to actually ask
Which line, which tier, what wind rating, what impact rating, and what underlayment goes beneath it. Those five answers tell you more than the brand name does.
What Matters More Than the Brand
This is the part most brand comparisons leave out, and it’s the part we’d most want you to take away.
At the same tier, how a roof is installed matters more than whose name is on the shingle. A premium shingle with poorly cut valleys, sloppy flashing, and an attic that can’t breathe will fail before a mid-tier shingle is installed properly. Manufacturers know this, which is why their warranties usually cover the product and not the workmanship that went around it.
Two things decide whether your roof reaches the life it’s rated for:
The details at the transitions
Valleys, flashing, and penetrations. That's where roofs leak, so the time taken at those points is what you feel two winters later.
Attic ventilation
A roof that can't breathe cooks from underneath. Heat and moisture sit against the deck and age the shingles from below, where you can't see it. It's why a free ridge vent upgrade comes with a qualifying replacement.
So when you compare quotes, compare the whole scope, not just the shingle name.
What Goes
Under the Shingles
A roof is a system. The shingles are the last layer on.
Synthetic underlayment
Goes over the decking as a second water barrier. Lighter, tougher, and more tear-resistant than old felt paper.
Ice and water shield
A self-sealing membrane at valleys, around penetrations, and anywhere water concentrates. Boise's code doesn't require it across the whole roof, since this valley has no real history of ice damming, but the vulnerable spots still earn it.
Drip edge
Metal at the eaves and rakes that pushes water off the roof edge instead of behind the fascia. Small, inexpensive, and worth confirming is on your scope.
Flashing
Chimneys, walls, and valleys. Layered metal, not a bead of sealant.
Pipe boots
The collars around plumbing vents. In our sun they crack sooner than most people expect, so they're worth replacing with the roof rather than after.
Ridge vent
The exhaust half of your attic ventilation, sized to match the intake at the soffit.
What does the Owens Corning warranty cover?
Manufacturing defects in the shingles, for as long as you own your home. The first 10 years, which Owens Corning calls TRU PROtection, cover 100% of materials and labor with no prorating. Wind coverage reaches 130 MPH when the roof is installed as a complete Owens Corning system.
What shingles do you install?
Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration architectural shingles on most homes, with Duration FLEX available when you want the Class 4 impact rating.
Do you install metal, tile, or flat roofing?
No. We do residential asphalt. If your project needs something else, we’ll tell you rather than take the job.
Is one shingle brand clearly better than the others?

Can I see how the price changes by shingle?
