New Lots,
|Moving Ground|
Star is a young town, housing-wise, and that changes what a gutter call here usually turns out to be. Most of the time the gutters themselves are in decent shape and something else is causing the trouble.
Peak Roofing is an owner-operated company working across Star and Ada County. Started 2017, and the customers did most of the marketing. By the time Mike took it on, the name already meant something locally. More than ten years on roofs came with him.
We handle gutters as part of the roofing system rather than as a separate trade, so we look at the whole water path rather than one component.
Why Gutters
|Matter in Star|
The system was signed off
New construction gets graded to drain and inspected before anyone moves in. On day one it works exactly as designed.
Then the ground moves
Soil settles over years. Planting matures, a patio goes down, a bed gets raised. Any of it can put water somewhere it was not going before.
So the failure is downstream
The gutter catches everything it always did. The difference is what happens after th

Discharge and downspout work
The fix for most Star problems. Extending a discharge, moving an outlet, or adding a downspout to a run that is carrying too much roof.
Grading-related overflow
Where a lot has settled since it was built and water that used to drain away now sits. The gutter is fine; the ground changed.
Repair
Corners, hangers and outlets, though on housing this new there is usually little wrong with the system itself.
Clearing
Light work on most Star homes at the moment, given how young the planting still is.
Replacement
Rare here, and if someone has recommended it on a home this age, we would want to look before agreeing.
Doing Gutters With Your Roof
Most Star roofs are not due yet, so this is one to keep in mind rather than act on.
Roof coming off soon? That is the moment to handle the gutters too.
If a replacement is already booked, add the gutters to it. The edge detail gets set as one piece, the cost of the second setup disappears, and nothing has to be disturbed again in a year.
On most Star homes the roof isn’t due yet, so this is one for later. Worth knowing about when the time comes.
Warranties and the |Peak Promise|
- The Peak Promise.
We aim to get your roof right the first time. Once in a while a job hits a bump. What matters is that your roofer stands behind the work. If something needs attention after we’re done, you call us and we take care of it. That’s the promise we stand behind on every job.
If a discharge we extended still leaves water where you do not want it, that is ours to sort out.

Gutters Built
|for Star Homes|
The unique local block. Every fact is verified. Sources at the end.
In Star, the gutters usually aren’t the problem.
This town went from about 11,000 people in 2020 to nearly 20,000 by 2024, and almost all of that arrived as new construction. Which means most gutters here have been up for well under a decade. Aluminum doesn’t wear out in that time. Sealant at the corners doesn’t usually fail that fast either.
So when a Star homeowner rings about water where it shouldn’t be, the answer is rarely a new system. It’s almost always about where the water goes once it leaves the gutter.
Here’s what changes over a subdivision’s first decade.
When a house is built, the lot is graded to move water away from the foundation, and the downspouts get whatever discharge the builder used. Usually that’s a short splash block sitting close to the house. At final inspection everything drains correctly, because it does.
Then the soil settles. That’s normal and it happens over years, not months. Landscaping goes in and changes the contours. Someone adds a patio, or a raised bed, or a path. None of it is a mistake, and any of it can put water somewhere it wasn’t going before.
Now your perfectly good gutter is delivering a roof’s worth of snowmelt to a spot that no longer drains. You see damp along a foundation wall, or a soggy patch that never dries, or water tracking back toward the house, and you reasonably conclude the gutters have failed.
They haven’t. The catchment is fine and the delivery isn’t.
The fixes are usually small. A longer extension. Moving an outlet a few feet. Adding a downspout to a run that’s carrying more than its share, which on a wide elevation is common because builders fit the minimum that works rather than the number that works well. None of that is a system replacement, and it is worth asking whether a repair will solve it first.
What we do about it. When we come out we walk the whole path, from the roof edge down to where the water actually ends up, rather than looking at the gutter and stopping. Half the time the answer costs very little, and we’d rather tell you that than sell you something.
One thing that will change eventually. Star sits at about 2,471 feet and the valley runs well over a hundred nights a year at or below freezing. Ice in a gutter is heavy, and over enough winters that weight does open corners and work hangers loose. Your gutters aren’t there yet. In another ten years the conversation will be different.
Are gutter guards worth it here?
I've got water pooling near the foundation. Do I need new gutters?
What does that fix usually cost?
My house is only a few years old. Can gutters fail that fast?
One side of the house overflows and the others don't. Why?
