A Young Roof Proves |Damage Faster|
Star is a young town, housing-wise, and that changes what a storm inspection here is actually for. On a newer roof the question usually isn’t whether the roof is worn out. It’s whether the weather did something, or whether the weather revealed something.
Peak Roofing is an owner-operated roofing contractor working across Star and Ada County. Peak Roofing started in 2017 and grew on referrals rather than advertising. Mike inherited a reputation rather than building one from nothing. He’d spent over ten years doing the work before he owned any of it.
We inspect, we photograph, and we tell you honestly which of those you’re looking at. Read our story
After a Storm:
What to Do First
Check how old the roof is. On a newer Star home that decides which route is even open to you.
Have someone walk it
We photograph what we find and put it in a written report. A clean roof gets a clean report.
Water inside means phone, not form
Call (208) 724-9315. Leak calls get scheduled ahead of routine work, Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm.
Stay off the roof
Look from the ground instead. Granules at the eaves, shingles in the yard, anything odd along the eaves. Photograph what you see.
Get the date down
Every claim starts from a date of loss, and memories blur faster than people expect.
What Storm
Damage Looks Like
Granules in the gutters
After hail, granule build-up tells you the roof took hits even when the shingles look intact from a distance.
Check the soft metal
Vent caps and air conditioning fins dent more easily than shingles. If those are pocked, the roof took the same hail.
Creased shingles
A gust lifts a shingle, folds it back, and drops it into place looking normal. The crease has broken the mat inside, and the sealant strip will not bond again.
Missing shingles at the edges
Wind gets under rakes and eaves first, so damage often sits on one slope and is invisible from the street.
Hail bruising
A hail strike leaves a soft dent with granules missing. Press it and it gives. That is mat damage, and it does not heal.
Insurance Claims:
How We Help
There may be two routes here, not one.
On a Star roof under ten years old, damage might be a storm claim or it might be a workmanship issue still covered by your builder or the manufacturer. Which one applies changes who you should be talking to.
Telling them apart is the inspection's job.
Weather damage follows the storm, directional and concentrated on exposed slopes. Installation problems follow the work, often along one course or around a single detail. We will tell you which we see, and sometimes that means pointing you at your builder rather than your insurer.
On the insurance side
we inspect, photograph, report, and attend the adjuster visit. We do not promise approvals, estimate payouts, or file on your behalf.
Warranties
and the Peak Promise
- The Peak Promise.
Covers what happens if something needs attention later.
On a newer Star roof there is a second question worth asking, which is whether a fault is ours, your builder’s or the manufacturer’s. We will tell you plainly which, even when the answer sends you elsewhere.

Storm Damage
in Star
The unique local block. Every fact is verified. Sources at the end.
A young roof makes a cleaner claim, and Star has a lot of young roofs.
The town went from 11,117 people at the 2020 census to roughly 19,920 by 2024. Nearly double in four years, almost all of it new construction. Most roofs in Star are well under ten years old.
Here’s why that helps you. The most common thing an insurer says about roof damage is that it’s wear rather than weather. On a roof that’s been up for twenty years, that argument has somewhere to go. On a five-year-old roof it doesn’t. A shingle that young doesn’t crease from age, doesn’t lose granules from age, and doesn’t break its seal from age. If those things are on your roof, something did them.
So if you’re in Star and you’ve been putting off having the roof looked at because you assumed a newer house means nothing to find, that’s backwards. You’re in the strongest position to prove damage that anyone has.
But there’s a second possibility worth knowing about.
Sometimes wind on a new roof doesn’t cause damage so much as show it up. Shingles that were never sealed down properly at installation will lift in wind that had no business moving them. Flashing that was rushed lets water in the first time the weather tests it properly.
That’s not storm damage. It’s a workmanship problem that a storm happened to reveal, and it points somewhere different. Where the roof is still covered by a builder or a manufacturer, that may be the right avenue rather than an insurance claim.
Telling them apart is the whole job of the inspection. Storm damage has a pattern to it. Creasing runs directionally with the wind. Hail clusters on the slopes that faced the storm and leaves matching dents in vent caps. An installation problem looks different. It shows up where the work was done badly rather than where the weather hit, often along a single course or around one detail.
We photograph the roof so that distinction is clear, and we’ll tell you which one we think you’re looking at. Sometimes that means telling you to ring your builder rather than us.
Local practicalities. Star runs its own building department, and inspections are booked through the city’s portal with next-day inspections needing a request by 4pm the previous business day, and none at weekends. It’s a tidy system and it just means planning around it, which we do. Star builds to Ada County values: a 20 psf ground snow load, 25 psf minimum on the roof, and a 90 mph design wind speed, the same standard as the 115 mph ultimate figure in the code.
