One of the Oldest |Settled Spots in Idaho|

Parma is one of the oldest settled spots in this part of Idaho, and the city is currently thinking about how to protect that. If your home is one of the older ones in town, that’s worth knowing before you choose a shingle.

Peak Roofing is an owner-operated roofing contractor working in Parma and Canyon County. It began in 2017 and the reputation was built job by job. Mike came to a business that had already earned its place here. Over ten years of doing the job himself came with him.

We do residential work and we install asphalt. Expect a straight description of the roof’s condition and a clear set of options. If a repair is enough, we’ll say so. Read our story

Just the address, then a moment’s wait.

We measure the roof from satellite imagery and price it accordingly. One thing to flag before you settle on a colour. Parma has proposed a local historic district. If it advances, exterior choices may come under review.

Scope is confirmed on the roof, since decking cannot be seen from above.

Parma is looking at creating a local historic district, and that’s worth watching.

The city’s comprehensive plan commits Parma to a historic preservation plan. That means identifying priority sites and looking at whether to set up a local historic district. It also backs the Old Fort Boise Historical Society and proposes interpretive signage along the Oregon Trail route and at the fort replica.

Nothing is in force today. But where a historic district is established, exterior work usually comes under design review. Roofing material and colour are commonly part of that. If your house is one of the older ones in town, it’s worth asking the city where that process stands before you settle on a shingle. We’ll ask alongside you rather than ordering material and finding out afterwards.

This is old ground. Hudson’s Bay Company built Fort Boise northwest of here in the 1830s, at the confluence of the Boise and Snake rivers. The site is on the National Register now, there’s a replica in town, and Old Fort Boise Days runs each June. A town with that much history has housing to match, and older homes bring older roofs and older decking underneath them. Board sheathing with gaps between the planks is common on genuinely old houses, and it changes how a new roof fastens down. Nobody knows what’s up there until the old roofing comes off.

Permits are handled locally. Parma runs its own planning and zoning office, and the city tracks building permits as one of the measures it watches for growth. If your parcel sits outside city limits, it goes through Canyon County Development Services instead, whose ordinance covers repairs and alterations rather than just new building. We confirm which applies to your address before scheduling.

What actually wears a Parma roof out. Sun, mostly. This is high desert, with roughly a foot of precipitation a year and long exposed summers. Granules go first, the asphalt underneath stiffens, and the roof turns brittle years before any storm gets the credit. Wind is the other one, and out on this open western edge of the county there’s little to slow it down. It lifts shingles at the rakes and eaves, which is exactly where you can’t see from the ground.

Parma |Roofing Questions|

Talk with Peak Roofing

Is there a historic district in Parma?

Not currently. The city’s comprehensive plan proposes looking at creating one, alongside a broader historic preservation plan. If it advances, exterior work on older homes could come under design review, and roofing material and color are usually part of that. Worth asking the city where it stands before you pick a shingle.

It can. Older homes often have board decking with gaps rather than solid sheet material, and sometimes that needs a layer added before new shingles go on. We’ll know once the old roof is off and you’ll hear it from us then.

The city handles permits for addresses inside the limits. Outside them it’s Canyon County Development Services. We confirm which applies and pull it either way.

Yes. Enter your address and we measure your roof by satellite, then show you real pricing for that roof. We confirm the final scope at the inspection, because decking and ventilation aren’t visible from above.

Both. On an older roof a repair is often the right call, and we’d rather do the repair and earn the bigger job later. Repair estimates are free. Roof repair
